— How much has changed in the 7 years between 2001 and 2008? —

Average number of households visiting the Food Bank each month

            2008 2,513 families
            2001 2,368 families

Percentage of families visiting the Food Bank only one time during the year

            2008 37.81%
            2001 36.8%

Average number of visits per family during the year

            2008 3.27
            2001 3.27

Percentage of families with no source of income

            2008 27.69%
            2001 17%

Percentage of clients helped who are children and youth

            2008 37.72%
            2001 40.9%

With an increase in the average number of families helped each month, with no change in the average number of visits per family each month, these statistics are disappointing to see. Not much has changed for the working poor and those on fixed incomes such as Pensions, Disability and Ontario Works.

Only 2002 had a higher number of families served each month than in 2008. For each year from 2000 to 2008, seven to eight thousand individuals required emergency food assistance every month. Each number represents real people living in our community.

Weight of food collected and distributed in 2001

1.53 million pounds (worth $3.06 million). This is a 7.1% increase over 2000.
